Our Story

Where It Began

My grandmother, Mary Mc Nelis, founded Rossan Knitwear in 1985. Growing up, I was surrounded by her work - from the wool itself to the stories behind each piece. She was strict but fair, and everything she did had purpose and pride behind it.

Some of my earliest memories are simple ones like playing with wool as a child, being around the workshop, and listening to stories about how things were made. At the time, I didn’t realise how much that environment would shape me.

A Family Tradition

I went on to study business at university, always carrying that connection to craft in the background. After graduating, I worked alongside my mum at Rossan Knitwear, becoming part of the third generation involved in the family business.

What started as childhood curiosity grew into a real appreciation for craftsmanship -understanding the materials, the time involved, and the care behind every piece.

This isn’t something I discovered later - it’s something I grew up in.

Carrying It Forward

Life has since taken me beyond Ireland. I moved to Leeds, but like many people, I’ve always felt a strong connection to home.

There’s something grounding about having a small piece of Ireland with you - something familiar, something meaningful.

That feeling is part of why this store exists.

My partner, who is Polish, shares that connection in his own way , even down to the small things, like the woolly sheep he carries on his keys. It’s those little reminders that matter more than you expect.

More Than Just Knitwear

Inspired By Ireland is not just about products.

It’s about continuing a tradition, sharing something personal, and creating a connection - whether that’s to Ireland, to craftsmanship, or simply to something that feels well made and meaningful.

This is a small part of our story, and we’re looking forward to what comes next - meeting new people along the way, whether that’s customers, friends, or something in between.
